THE HISTORY
S.O.A.R.'s president and director general, Rola Helou, in partnership with Mr. Jacob Cree, started offering tutoring services from the old, abandoned radio station trailer in Kanehsatà:ke. We met while working at Ratihen:te High School supporting students with different abilities and disabilities by creating individualized educational plans and creating more inclusive learning environments.
The students and parents appreciated the after school support offered, but the building itself was not fit to receive students. Jacob decided to continue teaching at the local high school, while I started offering more individualized services to neurodiverse students and families on an individual basis. S.O.A.R. was registered with the Registre des entreprises in 2008.
That same year, I was elected to serve as secretary of the Board of Directors of the Tsi Rontswa’ta:khwa Early Childhood Center. The skills acquired during a master's in education transferred well into governance and, later, management positions.
After working with Linda Simon at Simon Management Services, I had the opportunity to help organizations achieve their missions.
When I was offered a position as an Executive Director (ED), I felt my consulting skills would benefit not-for-profit organizations, the people they serve and the employees who work there. Additionally, the skills I had acquired creating inclusive learning environments for different students served me well as an inclusive leader. After nine years as an ED, I felt I could use my skills could help support other EDs in achieving their organizations' missions.
There are so many important missions and so many organizations doing important work!
Now, S.O.A.R. seeks to collaborate, share knowledge, experience and offer support to other EDs. EDs in the non-profit sector have a tremendous amount of work. Delegating strategic, time-consuming tasks to an experienced former ED gives EDs peace of mind knowing the work will be completed as they would have completed it themselves. That is where S.O.A.R. Solutions can help!
Please contact me for more information about how we can support your organization by finding the solutions that work for you. To learn more about the different services offered (though there is almost no limit to what we will do to support organizations and your important missions) please visit our Services page.

In a spirit of openness and respect, S.O.A.R. begins by listening to an individual’s or organization’s needs. This provides a clear understanding of the issue and is followed by a proposed approach to meet the needs and solve the issue.
While serving as Executive Director in different organizations,
I had the opportunity to learn about governance, inclusive leadership, and building capacity. One of the most enjoyable aspects of being an ED is the opportunity to work with extraordinarily people and support them in achieving their goals. Members of the team at the First Nations Adult Education School Council presented many beautiful gifts and this video at the end of my mandate in June 2020.
