Follow-up Questions from GWR
Would you prefer to be named on the record as Tony or Tanios?
I would prefer to be named Tony on the record.
What inspired you to attempt a Guinness World Records title?
First and foremost, my family. My grandchildren and children that I love so much. Also, I want to show that no matter your age, you can achieve what I have. I am 75 years old but still as fit as can be. I would like to motivate other elders to do as I have and show that it is never too late to be fit.
When did you discover you had the skill to potentially achieve this record?
All my life, I enjoyed doing sports. 60 years ago, I used to walk on my hands for fun. I stopped and when I was 55 years old, I started to train myself to be healthy by running everyday, doing pushups and doing headstands against a wall. When I realized it was going well. Six years ago, I started doing headstands at home, in the park and in front of my family and friends. One day, my daughter told me you have this skill, why don't you apply to the Guinness World Records title. So, we did.
Why did you choose to go for this skill?
I chose this skill because I find myself able to do it professionally. It doesn't hurt my body. I feel good when I do it.
Please describe your training routine (if any) in preparation for this attempt.
My routine is I sleep early everyday and wake up early everyday. I run 15-20 minutes to get my coffee. Then I do a headstand everyday followed by 20 push-ups everyday. What helps me the most is I know what I eat, I don't do drugs. I quit smoking 7 years ago, when my granddaughter asked me to. This has helped me do more exercise and not get tired of it.
What challenges did you face on the day?
The challenge was, first of all, I was supposed to do it on the grass, which is comfortable, but it was raining a lot, so we had to do it on the concrete. But the concrete was uneven and it hurt my head. I would have been able to do it much longer on the grass, but the concrete was hurting my head.
Do you plan on attempting any other records?
I am currently practicing doing a headstand with only two fingers on the ground. I would love to attempt another record, but it would be an honour just to have one. Perhaps I will reach out once I have perfected the two-finger headstand and am able to do it professionally.
What would being a GWR title holder mean to you?
It means to me and to my family and to the people I train to be healthy and do exercise. It means a lot to me. It's like a big achievement. I choose to attempt a Guinness World Record at 75 years old to help older people be healthy.
